How much are Air France/KLM Flying Blue miles worth?
Flying Blue carries a reference value toward the upper end of the programmes we cover. Beyond that our data is thin: we hold no verified transfer route into it and no confirmed expiry policy, and this guide says so rather than filling the gaps.
2.24¢ current reference value per mile, from AwardWallet Verified Aug 2026
What the reference value tells you
The figure at the top of this page is an average across a large sample of real award bookings, sourced from AwardWallet. It sits toward the upper end of the eleven programmes we cover, which generally reflects a programme where long-haul and premium-cabin redemptions land well.
It is an estimate for context, not a rate you can demand, and not what any individual redemption will return. The number that matters for a booking is the one you calculate from that booking.
What we have not confirmed
We hold no verified transfer route from any of the six bank currencies we cover into Flying Blue. Flying Blue is a major programme and we would expect it to have transfer partners; the absence here reflects our verification work, not the programme.
We also have no confirmed expiry policy. Flying Blue historically operated an activity-based rule, and we are deliberately not stating it, because a half-remembered expiry rule is the kind of thing people plan around and get burned by. The official page is linked below.
We would rather show you an obvious gap than a confident sentence resting on nothing. That principle is what the rest of this site is built on.
What still works here
Estimating a balance works normally, using the calculator above and the sourced reference value.
So does judging a specific award. Cents per point needs only the cash fare, the miles price and the award fees - it is indifferent to which programme issued the miles and to whether we hold partner data. That calculation is usually the one that settles a decision.
A worked example
Suppose a transatlantic fare is selling for $860 and an award is 35,000 miles plus $230 in taxes and carrier charges - a cash component that is common on European carriers.
($860.00 cash − $230.00 award fees) ÷ 35,000 points × 100 = 1.80 cents per point
Watch what the $230 does. Before fees the redemption looks like it saves the whole fare; after them, the miles are doing far less work. On routes with heavy carrier charges this is the single most important input, and the one people most often leave out.
Against the current reference value of 2.24 cents, that is about 80% of typical — what we label below typical value. Those bands are our own editorial rules, not an industry standard.
How this programme prices awards
We have not verified this Airlines rarely state their award pricing model in writing, and we are not going to record an inference as a sourced fact. Whether Air France/KLM Flying Blue prices awards from a chart or against the cash fare is something you can test yourself: price the same route at several different cash fares and see whether the miles price moves with them. Our explainer covers what each model means for your balance.
Do these miles expire?
Every eligible earning activity extends the validity of your entire Flying Blue Miles balance by 24 months, including flights and partner activity such as hotel bookings and car rentals. Miles never expire for Elite and Elite Plus members, holders of an eligible co-branded card, Flying Blue Extra subscribers, and members under 18.

Verified Sep 2026Getting miles into this programme
We have no verified transfer route from any bank currency we cover into Air France/KLM Flying Blue. That may mean none exists, or that we have not confirmed one yet. It does not mean the programme is unreachable — you may still be able to book its flights using a partner programme's miles. Check whether a path exists before planning around one.
Find the seat before you transfer Transfers are one-way. Confirm the award you want is bookable in Air France/KLM Flying Blue first, then move the points, then book.
Good and poor uses
Broad principles, not promises about specific inventory. What is actually available on your dates is something only the booking programme can tell you.
Generally works well
- Long-haul and premium-cabin redemptions, where the reference value suggests the programme performs best.
- Redemptions you have priced with the carrier charges included.
Usually poor value
- Any redemption priced without entering the cash surcharges.
- Planning a transfer based on a partner list from an unofficial source.
- Assuming an expiry rule we have not confirmed.
Questions people ask
Why are no transfer partners listed?
Because we have not verified any. Our tables only show routes a person has confirmed against the official source. An empty table means the verification work is outstanding, not that no routes exist.
Do Flying Blue miles expire?
We have not confirmed the current policy from an official source, so we will not state it. Check the official programme page linked below - and treat any third-party summary, including a remembered one, with caution.
Why do the taxes matter so much on this programme?
Several European carriers levy substantial cash charges on award tickets. That money comes straight off the value of the redemption, which is why our calculator asks for award fees separately rather than folding them in.
Can I still judge a redemption without your partner data?
Yes. Use the redemption value calculator with the cash fare, the miles required and the award fees. Partner data affects how miles get somewhere, not whether a given award is good value.
