How much are British Airways Club worth?
Avios carry one of the higher reference values we hold, and two bank currencies reach them. The thing to understand before redeeming is the cash component: on some routes the surcharges are large enough to change the answer completely.

Two ways in
American Express Membership Rewards and Capital One Miles both transfer into the programme at 1:1 in our verified data. Capital One's route carries a minimum transfer amount, which is shown in the table below - a small balance may not be movable at all.
As always, find the seat before you transfer. Being able to reach a programme is not a reason to move points into it.
The surcharges are the story
British Airways is the programme most often cited when people talk about award tickets with large cash components. We have not verified the current surcharge levels on any specific route, so we will not quote figures - but the mechanism is worth understanding regardless.
A cash surcharge comes straight off the value of a redemption. An award that costs 50,000 Avios plus a few hundred dollars is doing much less work than the same award with nominal fees, and the cents-per-point figure will show it. Always enter the full cash component into the calculator, and price the same trip in cash before deciding.
This is also why the programme's reference value and any individual redemption can diverge sharply. The average is built across bookings with very different cash components.
A note on the programme name
The programme was reorganised and renamed from Executive Club to The British Airways Club. Our data uses the current name, and the official page linked below is the current one - we confirmed that when verifying the link.
Older third-party guides may still describe the previous structure, which is worth bearing in mind when reading anything not dated.
A worked example
Suppose a fare is selling for $780 and the award is 40,000 Avios plus $310 in taxes and surcharges.
($780.00 cash − $310.00 award fees) ÷ 40,000 points × 100 = 1.18 cents per point
The surcharge does most of the damage. Before it, the redemption looks like it saves $780; after it, the Avios are doing well under half that. On a booking like this, paying cash and keeping the flexible points is often the better decision.
Against the current reference value of 2.55 cents, that is about 46% of typical — what we label weak relative value. Those bands are our own editorial rules, not an industry standard.
How this programme prices awards
We have not verified this Airlines rarely state their award pricing model in writing, and we are not going to record an inference as a sourced fact. Whether British Airways Club prices awards from a chart or against the cash fare is something you can test yourself: price the same route at several different cash fares and see whether the miles price moves with them. Do these miles expire?
Avios expire if a member has not collected or spent Avios, or purchased or transferred Avios, for 36 consecutive months. Members of a household account are protected from that while the account has a Gold, Silver or Bronze member who has collected or spent Avios within the last 36 months.

Generally works well
- Routes where the cash surcharge is modest relative to the fare.

Usually poor value
- Any redemption priced without entering the surcharge.
- Transfers from Capital One below the route minimum, which are not offered at all.
- Assuming the reference value applies to a booking with a heavy cash component.

No - the programme is now The British Airways Club. Guides that still describe Executive Club may predate the change.
